After learning about CrossFit in November of 2007, I was hooked and shortly after that became a co-owner of CrossFit PEI. The initial CrossFit workouts were humbling but I began to see results in a very short period of time. I found that the the efficiency and effectiveness of the programming allowed for greater gains in strength, endurance and overall fitness in a shorter period of time. On top of that, it is a great community – I have never met a more supportive group of competitive people in my life.

I have been doing Taekwondo since 1987 and am a Sixth Degree Black Belt Master. I have taken a number of National Coaching Certification Program courses for both coaching and general instruction of adults and children. I am also a certified Level 1 Snowboard Instructor with the Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors.

My name is Brett Roberts and I want to welcome you to CrossFit 782.

I have been coaching and doing CrossFit since 2011. I started working with Reebok CrossFit Sentinel in Korea running a CrossFit youth program.

In 2014 I moved home to the Island and that summer Mike and I opened CrossFit 782. Ever since I have been training, coaching, and living the dream here at 782. CrossFit has helped me deliver my passion and purpose of connecting people and helping people improve their physical and mental well being.

I hold two degrees, a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a Bachelor of Education. The combination of these two have given me the tools to deliver training programs to help you reach your health and fitness goals. I look forward to working with you to help your achieve these goals.

See you at 782!

Alex Arsenault

Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology

CrossFit Level 1 Trainer

I am originally from Lantz, Nova Scotia. After leaving my career as an aircraft maintenance engineer in 2019, I moved to PEI and went back to school to pursue my passion for fitness and helping people.

I graduated UPEI with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in May of 2023 and was hired on at CrossFit782 as a part-time coach. I started with a solid foundation of training experience but had never tried CrossFit before. As a kinesiologist, I instantly fell in love with the variety of movements and aspects of fitness involved.

Throughout the summer of 2023, the excellent coaches at 782 were able to guide me as I started my coaching career. I completed my CrossFit Level 1 course shortly after and haven’t looked back. I have really enjoyed helping people chase their fitness goals thus far and am glad to be part of such a positive and supportive community! I look forward to continuing my learning and growth as a CrossFit coach in order to provide the members and visitors of 782 with the best training experience possible.

Makenna Guthrie

Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology

CrossFit Level 1 Trainer

My name is Makenna and I found my love for CrossFit back in 2021!

I grew up playing nearly every sport, from soccer to field hockey, football, rugby, cheerleading, and gymnastics. Physical fitness has always been a passion of mine, but like most cross-fitters….the typical commercial gym just didn’t do it for me anymore. I found love in the variety of movements CrossFit offers, there is always something to learn and new goals to be set.

Towards the end of my BcS in Kinesiology, I took on a field placement at 782 whereby I had the pleasure of learning from so many wonderful coaches. Now, here I am—a coach myself!

I can’t wait to share my knowledge rooted within athletic experience, the biomechanical aspects of gymnastics, and science of human movement with the amazing community of 782!

CrossFit Level 1 Trainer

I first started training in middle school to get stronger and in better shape for sports. I spent hours online researching different ways to train, eat, and recover to get the most I could out of it. I started with bodybuilding style training and shifted my focus to powerlifting once I got to university. In 2020, I decided to try out CrossFit and haven’t looked back, eventually getting my Level 1 certification to start coaching in 2021. Fitness has always been a major part of my life, and I am a huge advocate for the role it can play in both physical and mental health. Being a coach has allowed me to share this passion with the members here to help them progress and reach their goals.

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, and am finishing a Master’s Degree in Human Biology – my research focused on investigating why we lose muscle mass with age, and how we can implement resistance training to help slow down and prevent this loss. In 2022 I will be starting the accelerated nursing program at UPEI to further contribute to the field of health care.

I started CrossFit in February 2008 with an eye to improving my overall fitness and to find a way to keep up my “gym” motivation which I had only ever been able to find for short periods in my 30's. While previously I had shunned team situations or group fitness classes, now I was hooked on sharing these workouts with the rest of the group. I found that pushing myself and encouraging others to do the same in developing new skills and finding new strengths was an intoxicating experience.

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to attend some CrossFit courses in gymnastics and olympic lifting. When I finally got the chance to attend my Level 1 course in 2015 I was all set to help others in their CrossFit journey. The past three years have been an amazing experience. I understand only too well the struggle to learn/master many of the movements in the gym. They do not come easily to me either. I also know the joy it brings to surpass your limitations and achieve your goals. Coaching CrossFit gives me the opportunity to be a part of other people finding that joy, and I love it.

I joined the Crossfit 782 community back in 2014 . I have always been involved in playing sports and loved the thrill of learning something new in my training. While in University I had the opportunity to play on the women’s varsity rugby team.  After finishing up with rugby I was lost in how to make exercise fun again. Going to a regular gym didn’t intrigue me. So from there I tried out CrossFit and it grabbed my attention. I finally had found something that kept working out fun and I loved watching myself get stronger. The best part about it was the community. In 2016 I decided I wanted to take my love for CrossFit a little further into getting my Level 1.

Greg Wright

CrossFit Level 1 Trainer

I started CrossFit in 2013 with CrossFit PEI, and joined CrossFit 782 in 2014.  I grew up playing a variety of sports on the Island, including basketball with UPEI.

I joined CrossFit when it became difficult to find the motivation to train after a couple years of lifting weights.   I loved the coaches and community, and got my L1 Coaching in December 2016. I really enjoy helping people improve their technique and achieve their goals.

I’ve always been a competitive person, so I was immediately drawn to the sport side of CrossFit, which has lead to me programming and coaching our competitive classes at 782.  I look forward to getting the best out of myself and helping others do the same.

Alexa Shaw

CrossFit Level 2 Trainer

In 2015, more than a decade after injuring my back and neck, I started CrossFit after being assured that anyone could do it. I had assumed that CrossFit would be too intense for me, but couldn’t have been more wrong!

The focus on proper technique and scaling to my abilities kept me safe, while quickly improving my fitness and helping rehabilitate old injuries. With the most fun and supportive community—where workout buddies quickly became friends—I ended up being able to do so many things I had never thought would be possible again.

In 2020, I was inspired to get my Level 1 so that I could give back. I have a passion for good technique, so nothing makes me happier than helping people to move safely and efficiently. I love supporting and motivating others to reach their fitness and wellness goals, and celebrating their progress when they do. It’s a true privilege to be part of the positive community that is 782.

CrossFit Leve 1 Trainer

After growing up playing competitive sports, I was looking for something to fill the void and stumbled upon a local CrossFit gym back home in Cape Breton. Since 2020, I have been box jumping, burpeeing, and lifting my way through the sport. Although humbling, I love that you are always learning and challenged in CrossFit.

What has meant the most to me in being a part of CrossFit 782 is the community, I always look forward to working hard (but laughing harder!) with good friends here. I enjoy being at 782 so much, I decided to get my Level 1 in 2023 and start coaching here too!

I hold two degrees, a Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics and a Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy. Although the bulk of my professional work has been in Mental Health, I feel this gives me a unique perspective as a coach that allows me to offer classes that encompass elements of self-care, intentionality, and mindfulness. My hope is that members take what both their mind and body need from my classes and leave feeling empowered, accomplished, and joyful.

CrossFit Level 1 Trainer

Hello, CrossFit 782 family! I’m thrilled to join the coaching team here. I began my CrossFit journey 7 years ago, after completing my college tennis career and earning a degree in Electrical Engineering.

I’m originally from Brazil and moved to this beautiful island with my wife, Nay, three years ago, which we now happily call home. Currently, I work as a Software Engineer, but CrossFit has always been a passion of mine. The warm welcome we received from the CrossFit 782 community inspired me to give back in the same way.

Now as a coach, I look forward to welcoming new members with open arms and contributing to our supportive environment. I am excited to contribute to everyone’s fitness journey!

Renee Arsenault

CrossFit Level 1 Trainer

My name is Renee Arsenault, I grew up here on beautiful Prince Edward Island and had the privilege of traveling the country competing in soccer, hockey, and karate.

My Crossfit journey began in my old garage with nothing but a skipping rope and a half broken dumbbell as I tried to navigate my way through Youtube fitness videos during lockdown in 2020. Having participated in so many competitive team sports growing up, I knew the community and friendly competition of Crossfit would be right for me.

I signed up for my first class in June of 2020 and immediately fell in love. It was an easy decision for me to become level 1 certified a few years back to continue learning from coaches and other athletes, and share the love for the sport with our members of all ages here at 782.

I am currently working as a full-time paramedic with Island EMS and plan to further my education with a Bachelor of Science and Advanced Care Paramedic course. I am thrilled to be joining the incredible team of coaches at 782 and will be helping out a few classes a week on my days off work as a medic.

Ella Jenkins

CrossFit Level 1 Trainer

Hi! My name is Ella Jenkins. I was born and raised in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island and was always active when I was a kid.

I found my passion for exercise when I started running in 2020. Then, I was recruited to the University of Prince Edward Island Cross Country and Track team later that year and have never looked back! I will graduate from the University of Prince Edward Island in May of 2025 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, and if all goes to plan, a Honours Degree with a specialization in Sports Psychology.

While at UPEI, I had the opportunity to enroll in a field placement course and was lucky enough to be placed at CrossFit 782 and it has been amazing so far. Everyone has been so welcoming and I've learned so much already about different olympic lifts and the structuring of workouts. Even though running is my true passion, I love strength training and finding new ways to challenge myself and CrossFit 782 definitely has a lot of that! I look forward to continuing my learning and growth under the supervision of Brett and the other coaches and getting to know the awesome members and visitors of CrossFit 782 more!
